Description
Ártos are five round loaves of sweet non-dairy yeast bread offered during the Artoclasía (“breaking of bread”) service of the Greek Orthodox Church. This is a service of thanksgiving, offered as a sign of devotion and gratitude on namedays, feast days and other significant occasions, by families, ministries and societies connected with a parish.
Bread is a basic, nourishing food and very significant in the Church as a symbol of the Body of Christ when consecrated during the Divine Liturgy. Ártos reminds us of the miracle of the five loaves when Jesus Christ blessed and multiplied five loaves and two small fish to feed five thousand followers.
We use cinnamon, clove, bay leaves and mastica to give our Ártos breads a distinct and traditional essence.
