Description
New Year’s Vasilópita (which means “bread of Saint Basil”) is a round bread that has the new year’s numbers on its surface made of dough and contains a hidden coin. The bread is cut on New Year’s Eve at midnight or on New Year’s Day and the recipient of the piece which contains the hidden coin will have good luck and blessings for the New Year.
Our Vasilópita is a sweet yeast bread flavored with traditional mahlepi and mastica, and sprinkled with sliced almonds. Mahlépi is an aromatic spice derived from the seed of the St Lucie cherry and Mastíca is a resin from the mastic tree which only grows on the island of Chios in Greece. Delicious toasted with butter.
For best results, please refrigerate or freeze your vasilopita breads when they arrive.
