Tsouréki is a sweet yeast bread that, like many yeast breads, requires two risings. Our Easter Tsouréki is flavored with traditional mahlepi and mastica, and sprinkled with sliced almonds. Mahlépi is an aromatic spice derived from the seed of the St Lucie cherry and Mastíca is a resin from the mastic tree which only grows on the island of Chios in Greece.
Tsouréki is made in specific shapes at Easter, Christmas and New Year’s. Traditional Easter Tsouréki is twisted or braided and baked with a red hard boiled egg (our red eggs are colored using non-toxic onion skins).
